Bringing Glamour Back with Golden Globes Hair and Beauty
Forget sexy: last night, the Golden Globes were all about bringing glamour back. The major trends in beauty indicated a return to high-wattage, old Hollywood glamour, with major hair, dramatic eyes, rosy lips, and luminescent skin.
High-Drama Hair: Most of the stars styled their tresses in one of two styles— Mila Kunis, Carrie Underwood, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and the incomparable Helena Bonham Carter all went big with bouffants, while Leighton Meester, January Jones, Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, and Megan Fox let their hair down in long, tousled waves that channeled retro Hollywood beauty.
Smoldering Eyes: The smoky eye was out in force, as celebs like Dianna Agron, Sarah Hyland, Jennifer Lopez, and Kyra Sedgwick played up their peepers with loads of black eyeliner and heavy mascara (perfectly complementing the pale, rosy lips— see below).
Petal-Pink Lips: Despite the hypnotic Gwen Stefani-endorsed red lipstick commercials playing during the breaks, the trend in lip color last night was a pretty pink. Amy Adams, Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox, Julianne Moore, Lea Michele, Emma Stone, Michelle Williams, and Claire Danes all sported a variety of rosy shades.
Golden-Glow Skin: You didn’t need an actual statuette to glow like a Golden Globe last night. Celebs like Natalie Portman and Jane Krakowski had that pregnant glow about them, while Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Heather Morris, and Catherine Zeta-Jones radiated without the help of baby bumps (as far as we know…)
Honorable Mentions: While they were in the minority, Sandra Bullock and Olivia Wilde’s blunt bangs were a fresh alternative to the dramatic up-dos and long, sweeping hairstyles. Also a rare but refreshing sight was Elisabeth Moss’ loose bob, as well as the always captivating (and often controversial) Tilda Swinton, who shined in no make-up whatsoever.
