Fashion: Wearing Summer Clothes with a Winter Wardrobe

By Mikaela Vournas, Student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Just because the temperature has dropped doesn’t mean you need to pack away your summer wardrobe!

Warm weather accessories can combine with summer gear to make a cute ensemble without you having to freeze while walking between classes. Keeping your summer clothes in the front of your wardrobe also allows you to double your outfit potential.

Shorts

Sick of wearing the same old jeans? Shorts are great for winter when paired with some leggings or tights underneath to keep you cozy. Colorful and printed tights are great with denim and solid black can work well with patterned shorts.

Mini Dresses

Mini dresses aren’t just for summer anymore! The key is adding layers. Start with a boyfriend cardigan, then add a winter coat for extra warmth. Tights and boots will keep your legs warm, and peek-a-boo socks can be a cute and cozy touch.

Maxi Skirts

Maxi dresses have been a hit for a while now, and you don’t have to pack them away just yet! Swapping sandals for a pair of ankle boots adds warmth.  Combine these with a thermal and a leather jacket and you have a trendy, winter-ready look!

Bright Colors

It’s easy to fall into the habit of wearing all dark clothing in the more dreary days of the season. Incorporating bright clothing will brighten your mood and keep your outfits from looking drab! Bright tank tops and T-shirts are great for layering and spicing up those gray days.

Bangles

Cute summer bangles aren’t just for bare wrists! Stack these summer bracelets over body-hugging tops and sweaters. They’re especially great when scarves and hats keep you from wearing jewelry.
