Sibu Beauty’s Amy Paffrath Gives Beauty, Lifestyle Advice for College Women

By Jill Scherr, Student at Academy of Art University

If you are looking for a great skin care line that is natural, quick and easy to use for the busy girl on-the-go, and (without making medical claims) may be beneficial to your overall health and well-being, then be sure to check out Sibu Beauty. Sibu Beauty is a 100 percent natural and cruelty-free skin care line that was first introduced in 2009. Its founder Bruce McMullin discovered Sibu in 2003 after prior events led him to Calcutta, India. It was there he crossed paths with a specialist in Chinese plants and herbs. In passing a powerful holy fruit, the Sea-buckthorn berry was mentioned and led McMullin on a quest to find the source of Sea-buckthorn which led to the formation of Sibu Beauty Products.

Sibu Beauty had been mentioned in many top beauty publications and television shows such as Marie Claire and Elle Magazine and has been featured on The Dr. Oz Show as well.

You may recognize Sibu Beauty's beautiful spokesperson, actress and television host, Amy Paffrath, from many red carpet events, including most recently as the host of the Jersey Shore After Hours & the Jersey Shore Reunion Special and can catch her on the big screen alongside her handsome fiance, actor and singer Drew Seeley, as vampire queen Luna Dark in the movie musical "I Kissed A Vampire."

Amy was incredibly kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions about Sibu and all things beauty for our amazing U Chic girls.

What made you want to represent the Sibu Beauty brand?

Sibu not only has a great product but also a great company philosophy. It's rare that you find that. I tried the products and loved them. They are all natural products that really work! I can feel good about what I'm putting on my skin and into my body. I can also feel great about the brand I'm attaching my face to. Sibu's business practices are of the highest standards. They ensure the land where the Sea-buckthorn berries are harvested and the employees who harvest them are treated with the utmost respect. It's an honor to be a part of this family.

What is your best health and beauty tip?

Eat right, drink lots of water, get daily exercise and be sure to get your beauty rest!

What is your favorite Sibu Beauty product?

I have so many favorites, but if pressed to choose, the capsules and the face and body bar are up there. The capsules have balanced out my skin and freed me of cystic acne, something I didn't know was possible! The face and body bar removes all of my make easily and is incredibly moisturizing. I even use it to shave; it glides easily and prevents razor bumps. For six bucks a bar, it's a beauty steal! I also have to add the eye cream to this list. Great for fine lines and wrinkles and even for just a quick eye brightener if you're tired!

What would you say to someone that may be considering using Sibu Beauty or a good first product from the line to try?

Sibu is all natural and gentle for all skin types. It's completely safe for everyone and you'll be thrilled with the results. For a first-time user, I'd suggest the liquid supplement and the daytime moisturizer. The liquid supplement is a delicious way to get your vitamins in, plus it's packed with heart healthy omegas and the rare omega 7 for healthy skin, hair and nails. The daytime moisturizer is our best seller. It's lightweight and so hydrating! Everyone needs to use a daytime cream. Whether you're 15 and starting a preventive routine or 85 and looking for some restorative properties, this cream is for everyone. There are no parabens, sulfates or fragrances. The light citrus scents come from essential oils so you don't have to worry about irritation. You'll have smooth, even-toned skin after just a few days!

Who is the Sibu beauty girl? What does she represent?

The Sibu beauty girl is an eco-conscious gal who lives an active lifestyle. She is aware of what's going on in the world and aims to make a difference. She knows she can have it all! A great beauty product that doesn't harm her skin or the planet. She gives back and cares about making an impact on the world. She is beautiful on the inside and the out. She knows that beauty starts within and has more to do with kindness and respect than aesthetics.

What are the differences you have seen in your skin and overall health since using Sibu Beauty?

My skin tone is much more even. I don't have the redness around my nose and chin that I used to. My skin feels hydrated longer. Best of all, my cystic acne has completely gone away! Anyone that suffers from it knows how uncomfortable it can be. I'd get a breakout on my chin every other month because it is hormonal. But there isn't any topical treatment for it. I'd have to take a trip to the dermatologist and have the cyst injected with cortisone to kill the bacteria. Glamorous, I know! Not only is cystic acne unsightly, it's painful! I'm thrilled to not have to struggle with that anymore. The capsules are to thank for that. They help to regulate hormone levels. In addition to my skin, my overall health has improved because I rarely get sick. It's amazing how much I travel and yet I've been able to avoid colds and the flu all together. Sibu's ingestable products are great for immune health. They also help your hair and nails grow. I've notice how healthy my nails are. They are strong and look great.

What is your beauty mantra?

My beauty mantra is: always wear a smile. It's always the best accessory and it doesn't cost a thing.

When do you feel the most beautiful?

I feel the most beautiful when I'm relaxing at the beach or volunteering with one of the various charities. Don't get me wrong, I'm a glamour girl and I love putting on makeup and hair extensions and a flirty dress, but I feel the most beautiful when I don't have to be "on." When there is no pressure and I can just be free to be silly and carefree.

What are your top five must-have beauty products?

  • 1. Lip balm: I have a mint chocolate coco butter one that I love! I'm also obsessed with Julie Hewett's – Camellia Lip Balm in Ruby. It's SO creamy and leaves just the right amount of ruby red tint.
  • 2. Moisturizer: A girl's gotta have hydrated, glowing skin!
  • 3. Mascara: I like Smashbox for a luxury line because the wand is amazing, but basic Maybelline works wonders on a budget.
  • 4. Concealer: Again, I like Smashbox High Definition Concealer, but I recently picked up a concealer stick from The Body Shop that's infused with tea tree oil. It's great because it covers blemishes AND helps heal them.
  • 5. Surface hair protein: Gotta protect my hair from daily styling, so I spritz on a daily leave in treatment from Surface. I love their hair care line because it's free of sulfates, which can strip your color and dry out your hair.

10. You are the epitome of being beautiful both inside and out, which is Sibu's mission as well, … what is your advice to U Chic ladies working on finding their own inner beauty?

Well, thank you! Trust me, we all have our struggles. I just make it point day to day to try my best and stay as positive as I can. I always say that giving back is the best way to connect with yourself. It's eye opening. When you're focusing on someone else, suddenly your own problems feel trivial. It makes you step outside of your own issues and put the focus on someone who might just need love. There's no better way to feel love than to give it. One of my favorite lyrics is from the Killers "I don't shine if you don't shine." It's such a beautiful simple phrase. It reminds me that we are all connected and should be invested in each other's well being. By lifting each other up, we will ourselves be lifted. When we allow others the freedom to be wonderful, we allow ourselves that same freedom. Be careful of your thoughts because they become your reality. You must train yourself to think "I am worthy, I am beautiful, I am capable, I am loved."
