Staying Motivated for the Last Stretch of the Semester
By Kelly Leslie, Student at San Francisco State University
Having trouble getting back into your groove after a fun-filled Spring Break? Don’t worry, you aren’t the only one!
Every student has a hard time going back to school. Whether you are visiting your family or vacationing somewhere tropical, Spring Break is a little taste of summer’s freedom and no one ever wants to go back to the "real world."
“The hardest part about going back to school is waking up early and having to establish my routine all over again,” says Noelle Woolsey, senior at Tesoro High School.
Woolsey isn’t the only one who feels this way. A lot of students would agree that waking up is harder to do after a week of fun. This is because you don’t have to go to bed at a reasonable hour and you can sleep as long as you want during the day.
Relaxing is the best part of break, but in order to get back into your routine sooner, you might want to try to get back to your normal sleep schedule a few days before school starts. This way you will be well rested and ready for your first day back.
Kristin Adney from Saddleback College agrees that getting back into her routine again is the hardest part about going back to school after Spring Break, but she says it is because of the homework.
“Trying to focus on homework again after a week off is never easy,” says Adney, “Especially since I have a lot to do the night before my first class.”
It is common for most students to leave all of their Spring Break homework to the last minute, and often times this causes a lot of stress. Instead of leaving your homework to the last minute, try to work on it during your down time.
The more you are able to accomplish during the week, the less you will have to worry about the night before.
Katelyn Gudjohnsen’s routine doesn’t change very much over break because of work, but she thinks the hardest part about going back to school is remembering that there is still a month left.
“During break I feel like school is over for the semester and it is difficult for me to get rid of the feeling that school is done,” says Gudjohnsen.
A lot of students have the mindset that the semester is over during break and don’t realize that they still have to finish finals and projects upon returning to school. It is always difficult to return to school after a week off, but as long as you follow these tips and continue to work hard, summer will be here before you know it!
