Tips and Tricks to Managing Your Time Well

By Jill Ravae Scherr, Student at Academy of Art University

As a girl with a full plate, it can be very hard to find balance and still have a life at the end of the day. Since I'm sure many of you can relate to my situation, I've shared some of my quick tips and methods as well as some new techniques I learned to help you attempt to have it all and enjoy the life you deserve!

Get Organized:
Probably the most important rule of time management is to be organized. As one of my favorite role models TV Host Maria Menounos would say, "Lazy people work the hardest." That is so true! Just think of the time and stress you can save when you know where everything is and you keep track of it accordingly (and no, an organized mess doesn't count). Some easy tips include investing in a pretty planner to keep track of all your appointments and signing up for free daily reminders that can be sent directly to your phone or email to remind you of your important tasks and to-do lists.

What's Most Important to You:
We all have obligations (even if we don't want to do them) that are a required part of our day-to-day lives. For the decisions and choices we do have input on, it is important to really pick and choose what means the most to us, makes us the most happy and really needs to be completed. Sometimes that may mean not pleasing others or "getting it all done," but at the end of the day you have to answer to you and be satisfied and happy with that and this is the only way to do so.

Perfection Isn't All It's Cracked Up to Be:
I know it is something we all strive for, but it just isn't realistic and often sets you up for major disappointment. As long as you put forth your best effort and you know you gave it your all, that is all you can possibly hope for and you should be proud of that.

Treasure Yourself:
Reward yourself with something big such as a new purse after completing a major task or even treat yourself to a small pick-me-up, such as a fancy coffee on your way to work! It will help motivate you and keep you on track while trying to achieve goals and tackle your to-do list.

YOLO – You Only Live Once!:
Trying to manage your time properly will always be an issue, so make it good and don't be so hard on yourself. We are all trying to do this thing called life, so let's stick together, help each other and most importantly, be kind to one another!
