California Cool: Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s
Another week, another celebrity clothing line: reality darling Lauren Conrad brings her California-cool look to a neighborhood Kohl’s near you. Joining Vera Wang and Avril Lavigne as Kohl’s latest celeb-designed line, LC Lauren Conrad consists of sheer floaty tops, print dresses, solid knits and a menswear blazer or two thrown in for good measure.
Surprisingly pleasant if not a bit underwhelming, the unoffending clothes are on trend yet not oppressively trendy. And while they might be a bit boring (the color palate is unexpectedly dark), Conrad’s designs, available in October at Kohl’s stores and online, would all make nice additions to any fashionista’s fall wardrobe.
Reality-TV poster girl LC is not the first Hills’ alum to launch a namesake clothing line (Whitney Eve was feminine and pretty, Heidiwood was a crime against humanity)— in fact, this isn’t even Lauren’s first time. Her private clothing line, Lauren Conrad Collection, launched in 2007 but quickly disappeared, puportedly because the stretchy jersey dresses and tees for $200-plus were not selling (although LC, bless her heart, claimed, “I was the one who asked to take a couple seasons off.” Sure you were, sweetie.)
For Conrad, licensing her name with Kohl’s footing the bill is a safer business bet. LC’s “California chic” looks are being sold with a much more reasonable, recession-friendly price range of $20-80, and the LC Lauren Conrad portion to Kohl’s website is actually quite impressive. Conrad has even made a video presenting certain key pieces of the collection and “styling” them, as the girls on The Hills and The City are prone to do. Check it out here!
