Celebrity Designers Dream up “Twilight” Wedding Dress

Dear obsessed Twilight fans: You’re not the only ones thinking ahead and wondering what Bella and Edward’s wedding is going to look like on the big screen. InStyle.com is just as curious, and enlisted a slew of famous designers to dream up Bella’s wedding dress. The website has almost a dozen sketches from everyone from Project Runway‘s Christian Siriano to designer-to-the-stars (and Natalie Portman BFF) Zac Posen.

The Theme: If you’ve read the books, you know that Edward’s adopted sister Alice plans their wedding around Bella’s vintage engagement ring. (Think early 20th Century Victorian demure with a slightly modern twist.)

Perfect: It must take a feminine eye (or a dedicated fan) to really nail the delicate simplicty detailed in the final Twilight book, Breaking Dawn. A-list designers Monique Lhuillier and Lela Rose (who both have their own bridal lines) manage to nail it and then some. Their long, slim mermaid-style dresses fit the period and match the descriptions given in the book.  Bella is a simple girl, and both of these dresses would ultimately meet her approval (not too poofy, but just enough sophisticaion to impress Edward and his extended Cullen clan).

Passable: Both Max Azria and Erin Featherstone manage to score points for incorporating the aesthetics of the period, but miss the boat on the bride’s tastes. Sorry guys, but there’s no way Bella would ever wear anything that made her look like she belonged on top of a wedding cake.

Failing Grade: Designers Brian Reyes, Prabal Gurung, Badgley Mischka, Zac Posen, and Project Runway‘s Christian Siriano are in danger of flunking out of design school with their offerings. Too modern, too sexy, too…vampy? It seems quite a few of these famous faces forgot the fashion rule of thumb: Don’t just dream up something – design it for real people. She may be a fictional character, but we bet Bella would become a runaway bride if she was forced to wear any of these obnoxious frocks!
