Moving away to school means adapting to an entirely new world. Along with college comes a new location, new schedule, new friends and what almost every girl is unsure about at one point in her life … new boys.

So when it comes to dating in college, what is the real deal? This is what most girls wonder before going away to school. The answer is, no one really knows. It depends on what you are looking for and the situations that you are in.

The best way to find out what it is really like is to ask girls who have been there before you.

Chelsea Johnson from California State University, Sacramento says, “Boys just want to hang out with no commitments and no strings attached while in college.”

She says that it is better to just stay friends with boys because most of them aren’t looking for a long-term relationship.

“It gets better after college, though,” Chelsea says. “I think this is why so many girls like to date older guys.”

Hanna Westbrook, from California State University, Fresno, says that it is a time issue rather than college boys not wanting a relationship.

“Dating in college is difficult. It becomes a challenge to keep up with schoolwork and a relationship at the same time,” Hanna says. “Add sleeping and working on top of that, and you have no time for anything else.”

On the other hand, some girls find dating in college to be successful.

Janelle McGee from California State University, Chico says, “Dating in college is fun, as long as you are with someone who wants the same things as you. Just make sure you guys are on the same page, and anything is possible.”
