How to deal with heartbreak during the Valentine’s Day Season

weheartit.com
It’s not a lie when people say, “breaking up is hard to do.” It is. You spend part of your lifetime learning about this person that you’re with–growing together and making memories–and it’s upsetting when it all comes crashing down. But I can tell you from experience, time does heal everything, and it will get easier day by day. Here are some ways to make your single self feel a little better during the Valentine’s Day season.
1. Get All The Emotions Out
It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to be upset. Feel like venting? Call your best friend, a parent, or a sibling. They will know all of the right things to say. Sometimes they know you better than you know yourself. After talking it out, you’ll feel a million times better.
2. Take Up A Hobby
Keeping yourself busy is one way to keep your mind off of the breakup. Go outside and embrace nature, take up a sport, or start painting. Looking forward to something that’s new, fresh, and exciting will help you move on. You’ll be able to enjoy things again and be able to work towards a goal that you set for yourself.
3. Make Plans With Friends
While by now you’ve talked out your feelings, now’s the time to have fun. Make plans with your friends so you’re always busy! Go out to the movies, go out dancing, go to dinner, or explore a new part of the city. You never know, you might find a new place that you love to venture off to and you’ll be having the best time with your friends!
We hope these tips help you deal with heartbreak a little easier. Although at first it’s going to be hard, just remember that you don’t have to go through it alone! Time heals everything, and once you finally feel better, you can enjoy fun and exciting things!
4. Try Something New
We all get used to certain habits. Maybe you always eat at the same sandwich during your lunch break. Or maybe you always get that same coffee on the way to history. What about the weekend? Do you always go dancing at the neighborhood bar? Why not go spelunking instead? Getting out of your typical environment or your head sometimes can be the best medicine for heartbreak.
Remember it doesn’t have to be a big change. It can be something as little as reading a book instead of binging on Netflix before bed. Making a small change just reminds you that you can change. And that change is not always a bad thing.
5. Still blue? These books are the fix:
- It’s Called a Breakup because it is Broken, Greg Behrendt, Amiira Ruotola-Behrendt
- Tender Is the Night, F. Scott Fitzgerald
- How Did You Get This Number, Sloane Crosley
- Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert
- A Short History of Nearly Everything, Bill Bryson
