Fall Fashion’s Key Pieces
It’s not news that the best fashion advice these days is “Shop your closet”— work with what you already have. But with a new season just around the corner, every girl’s wardrobe could use a little spicing up. Here we bring you fall’s key pieces… both high-priced versions to ogle and the looks you can afford!
-Boyfriend Blazer
This menswear topper brings instant sophistication. Try a shorter shrunken cut (think your little brother’s old jackets) or a longer 80’s style. Don’t forget to roll up those cuffs! Try Abercrombie and Fitch, Kenna-T at Nordstrom, Aqua by Bloomingdale’s and Gap.
-Leather jacket
Another “must-have” jacket for fall, this piece adds edge to even the sweetest of outfits. Throw a shrunken version with pushed-up sleeves over a floral dress or a simple white tee and jeans. The best part? Faux leather looks just as good as the real thing! Check out both at Express and Urban Outfitters.
–Vests
In cotton or corduroy, leather or velvet, a vest is an easy way to revamp your old long sleeve tees and button-downs. This season’s newest look is actually in faux-fur- see pieces from Rebecca Taylor and Juicy Couture.
-Plaid
The 90’s are back in a big way with the dominance of plaid for yet another season. Embrace your grungy side with a long-sleeve button down, then play it up with a leather jacket or tone it down with slim jeans and flats. In addition to thrift stores (a.k.a. plaid shirt meccas), hit up Uniqlo for a traditional look, or try a sweet feminine plaid at Kohl’s.
-Distressed jeans
Yes, it’s true— break out those pre-ripped jeans from the back of your closet. A little fraying and fading fits this season’s edgy look, but avoid going full-on Nirvana: don’t rock your plaid shirt, leather jacket and rocker jeans all at once. Go loose with a boyfriend cut at Abercrombie and Fitch or stay skinny at Urban Outfitters.
-Slim pencil skirt
This timeless classic balances with the season’s more bulky tops and masculine looks. Mix it up with a loose tee and a blazer, a cami and an oversized cardigan, or any pretty floral top you have laying around. Go stretchy and sexy in American Apparel, or sleek and sophisticated in Rampage at Macy’s.
