Sarah-Dreamer

My Story:

My dream is to be an OB/GYN working in particular with teens and women with unplanned pregnancies – possibly even work for Birthright.

I’m excited to be a part of the creation and bringing of new life into the world.

My Inspiration:

When I was a child, my mother had two stillbirths.  Two boys, named Mitchell and Nathan.  I was 9 when Nathan passed. I even held him in my arms on the day that he entered and left our world.  There was an absolute peace and serenity in his lifeless, yet beautiful face.  My early experiences in Labor & Delivery gave my first insight into the medical field and opened my eyes to the fragility and beauty of life.  Through time spent shadowing, volunteering, and speaking with physicians since my eye-opening experience, it is clear to me that the overlying consequences of my calling in OB/GYN are new life, heartier families, and strength that prevails through inevitable complication – each of which outlines my deepest held personal values.

Challenges I Face:

I face several financial challenges: paying current undergraduate housing/tuition/loans.  Additionally, I face the cost of continued education with a low prospect of post-graduate financial assistance.  I work to pay my way through school.  Recently due to budget cuts, I lost my job at the university, which had previously covered the full expenses of my room and board.  Now I face more than loans – I face the current pressures of paying for rent, utilities, tuition not covered by scholarship/financial aid, books each semester, and transportation costs.

If I get funded I will:

A $1000 scholarship from UChic will help me achieve my dream by covering my rent for 4 months – so that instead of focusing on work, I can focus more on schoolwork and extracurricular leadership opportunities to better myself as an applicant and future medical professional during my time at the undergraduate level.

My quote of inspiration for others:

If I could change one thing in the world, I would provide the means for all to have access to basic medical services.

My Dream:

I’ve always been interested in the world of politics. A role in that world would be my dream.

My Story:

In the fall, I will be heading off to law school at the University of Kansas. Although I’m not one hundred percent sure where I will end up after three years of law school, I am sure that I would love to do something involving politics.

My  Inspiration:

Many kids grow up wanting to be the president of the United States, I guess I just never grew out of that dream. I’m not sure when the dream started for me, but I do remember writing a letter to President Bush in the fifth grade and getting a response and a signed picture back. To a nine year old that response inspired a lifelong interest in politics and a desire to make a difference in the world.

Challenges I Face:

Trying to have a positive impact on the world is a large task, and for me making it an achievable goal is the biggest challenge I face. My hope is that the next three years of law school will help me to find a niche and figure out a way to make a difference, whether it be big or small.

If I get funded I will:

Law school isn’t necessarily cheap, and I am solely responsible for paying for my tuition and living expenses. A grant would help me buy essentials like books and supplies without taking out any more loans than necessary.

My quote of inspiration for others:

If I could change one thing in the world, I would change the priorities of those in charge. Instead of emphasizing issues that will gain them political points, I would have politicians focus on important issues that will have a positive impact on people’s lives.
