Get Your Spring Break On: 5 Travel Essentials

Don't forget your toothbrush!

Spring break is finally here! If you’re anything like me, you’ve been dreaming of spring break since January and you are anxiously awaiting the sand and the sun. When you are burnt out and ready to catch some rays, it is easy to rush packing and forget necessities.  Personally, I always seem to forget something.  Here are five spring break essentials you don’t want to leave without.

1. Basics

The best tip I could give for those of you who are going on vacation is to pre-plan your outfits. Typically, I would throw everything from my closet into my suitcase and pray that it weighs less than 50-pounds. However, I tried this tip when I went to Florida last year, and it was a lifesaver. Write out your itinerary and pack your outfits accordingly, plus 1 or 2 extra outfits just in case plans change. To really make the most out of your wardrobe, I find that the best items to pack are just basics- solid tops, maxi skirts, shorts, etc. You can mix and match to create multiple outfits with minimal amount of items. Pack a nice statement necklace to transform a basic top from casual to dressy.

2. A Good Book

Nothing screams “vacation” like being at the beach or by the pool with a good book. For me, reading is something that I always want to do more of, but between work, class and extracurricular activities, I can never get around it. Vacations are the best time to read and there is nothing more satisfying than completing a good book.

3. Travel-sized everything

One year I made the mistake of packing a brand new bottle of tanning lotion in my carryon and TSA took it away immediately. Another year I packed a brand new, 8oz bottle of my favorite face wash and forgot it in the hotel room. Just bring travel-sized everything.  It is a space saver and you have more room in your luggage or carry-on for souvenirs! Most stores will have deals on travel-sized value-packs, and if they don’t carry a travel size of your favorite products, you can find travel-sized containers at your local Target or Wal-Mart.

4. Protein Bars

For those trying to eat (somewhat) healthy, protein bars are a must-have whenever I go on vacation. It is so easy to get off track when you go away, and whether you are at the airport, at the beach, or hanging out in the hotel room, having a healthier option on hand makes it easier to say no to a bag of chips. Protein bars will keep you full and energized while you run around (or relax) all day. Plus, I don’t feel so guilty when I actually go out to eat!

5. Waterproof Makeup

Whether or not you will be spending time in the water, I find that waterproof makeup just lasts a lot longer in warmer weather. Nobody wants to look back on their vacation photos and find they had raccoon eyes!  Sure it takes a little bit more effort to remove, but any makeup remover will do the trick.
