A Glimpse of Madonna’s Macy’s collaboration, Material Girl
Madonna’s smash hit “Material Girl” first rocked radio waves in 1985, so it is all too appropriate that Madge’s new clothing line bearing the same name is a veritable Eighties throwback.
And not a bad one, at that. Collaborating with Macy’s, Madonna’s Material Girl clothing line brings the pop star’s iconic style moments to the teen masses. Madonna’s 13-year old daughter Lourdes, a.k.a. Lola, served as the muse and co-designer of the line, and her unabashed love for her mother’s deep closet is clear: lace shorts make an appearance, as does a black ruffled tulle miniskirt, a denim military jacket, a punk-goes-western plaid shirt, and a chic oversized blazer paired with a floral crop top that scream “Desperately Seeking Susan.” It’s all iconic Madonna but not tackily so, and I could easily imagine incorporating any one of the trendy pieces into my fall wardrobe.
While we can’t get our hands on the Eighties-meets-aughts duds until August 13, Lola and the Material Girl team are dangling the collection just close enough to keep us interested: Material World is the collection’s official blog, penned by Lola herself (as if the entries’ heavy tween verbiage wasn’t enough to clue you in: “Helluuur thurrrr, I’m Lola and this is my first blog entry so it’s kind of like ummmm….”) and a teaser ad campaign has been circulating featuring a “mystery” (and totally obvious) TV star as the collection’s face, a pairing which actually seems quite perfect.
Between the clothes, the images (see more here!), and the signature Madge attitude, Material Girl is a collaboration to get psyched about. Come August 13, will you be ready to party like it’s 1985?
