Looking back: Quotes and events that are “So 2014”

Weheartit.com

This year, 2014, was a major year of events, ideas, excitement and, of course, pop culture. Here are some quotes to wrap up 2014 and kickstart 2015:

In my nervousness for this speech and my moments of doubt, I’ve told myself firmly, ‘If not me, who? If not now, when?” –Emma Watson. This quote was during Emma’s UN speech about the #HeForShe movement, which began bridging the gaps between men and women and the lack of conversation happening around feminism and things like salary gaps and social norms.

“You’re bright and joyful and so many people are cynical. They won’t understand you and they won’t understand me. But the only way they win is if your tears turn you to stone and make you bitter like them. Just don’t let them change or stop you from singing or dancing around to your favorite song.” –Taylor Swift to a fan. Taylor’s hit “Shake It Off” supports her thoughts about letting “the haters” get to you… just shake ‘em off and jam out to her record-breaking album 1989.

“Okay?” “Okay.” –Augustus Waters to Hazel Grace Lancaster in hit novel and movie “The Fault In Our Stars,” which highlights young love, illness, adventure and life. #TFIOS features lots of movie stubs, graphics and apparel with this quote on it.

“You are the most talented, most interesting and most extraordinary person in the universe—and you are capable of amazing things.” –Emmet (Christ Pratt) in the surprisingly-popular-amongst-Millennials movie, “The Lego Movie.”

“Some people are worth melting for.” –”Frozen,” which technically came out in 2013, was definitely Disney’s biggest hit of 2014 for young and old alike. Whether its empowering sing-in-the-shower song “Let It Go” is your favorite or not, there’s just so much to love about this show (like the fact that Kristen Bell has the voice of an angel, for example.)

“I have this blank canvas in front of me, which is what my life can be.” –Lea Michele. I love this quote’s reminder to prepare for the blank canvas of 2015 and to make the most of it.

And if you need just a little nostalgia for your car playlists, listen to the 2014 pop mash-up before making your first mix of 2015.
