My LIfe On Mondays: Two Weddings and a Birthday Party
*I have 7 wedding invitations on my fridge.* SEVEN! With those kinds of odds, it’s only realistic that some of them will fall on the same day. And since my life is usually comprised of and going to the grocery store for a gallon of milk, it was a pretty exciting Saturday when….
*3 pm* – College friend’s afternoon wedding reception at a ski resort lodge
*6 pm* – Little cousin’s wedding and reception at church
*9 pm* – Great Aunt’s birthday party at community center
Yep, that’s one day, three big events…complicated by the fact that all of them took place in different cities, three far away cities _(basically 5 total hours of driving)_.
First up was my college friend Leighanna’s reception. Lee and I used to joke about getting married since we are both very career minded and couldn’t possibly picture ourselves as suburban housewives. So on my way to the wedding _(in a 85 degrees and no air conditioning)_ I stopped by Anthropologie to buy her gift: a waist apron with pink ruffles. I pulled into the driveway of the ski lodge and as I hurried to put on my shirt _(I had been driving in a thin tank top)_ and touch up my makeup, the valet knocked on my window. Valet? Alright, I’ll take it.
As I sat munching on my chicken teriyaki skewers and chocolate-covered strawberries, I got to catch up with three college friends. Marisa, Trina and Jill had lived with Lee on the floor where I was their resident assistant. And now Jill has been married for a year, Marisa is planning her August wedding and Lee is…well, a very newlywed. Where did the time go? *It seems like only a 4 years ago they were timid freshmen, worried only about general requirements and the freshman 15. Wait…that was only a 4 years ago.* What in the world is going on here? Are they growing up too fast or am I growing up too slowly?
Universities Struggle to Prevent College Deaths
![]() |
TIME magazine published an interesting article on what different universities are doing to prevent their students from committing suicide. |
_”With two recent court rulings holding that college administrators may be held partly responsible for student suicides–which total some 1,100 a year nationwide, making suicide the second leading cause of death among college students, after motor-vehicle accidents–many universities have hastily adopted mandatory-leave policies in an effort to reduce the risk of self-inflicted, on-campus deaths. But a tragic result, say psychiatrists and student advocates, is that emotionally distressed students may be less willing to come forward and get the professional help they need.”_

Fashion Blog: Inspired by Annie Hall
![]() |
I’d never seen Annie Hall so I finally watched it over the weekend. I think it was supposed to be the original “chick flick” but I was less than impressed. Actually, it kind of reminded me of When Harry Met Sally, _(yes, I know, the chicken came before the egg, or whatever)_, but at least Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal ended up together in the end. It’s quirky and unpredictable, but still delivers that predictable happy ending. Endings aside, I was particularly taken with Diane Keaton’s wardrobe in the movie. I’m not sure if this kind of layering was typical at that time, but I think the silhouette is just fantastic.
