Summer Skin: Best Seasonal Beauty Buys

As the spring warms into summer and school becomes an afterthought, the most flirty and fun season for makeup begins. From bonfires to grad parties, baseball games to patio dinners and the beach, here are some of my must-have beauty buys for flawless summer skin.
I swear by tinted moisturizer for spring and summer looks. What’s better than 1 less layer of goop on your face, hydrated skin, and SPF 15? Nothing. I personally love the Neutrogena Cream Moisturizing Facial Moisturizer, available at most drugstores. A lighter BB cream can also be a great buy. With a light brushing of powder and/or bronzer overtop (once it dries) you’re set for a natural look to last the day!
Going along with the topic of tinted skin, if you miss a spot of sunscreen or have an odd tanline, Jergens Natural Glow is an awesome lotion that won’t turn your skin orange or wrinkly. Most drugstores, Target, Walmart, and similar places will run coupons or BOGO deals… be on the lookout! It gradually adds color, so with even distribution you can get rid of that shoe or sports tan without looking like you put a lot of effort into it. (There are both face and body versions of this; be sure to use the designated one!)
While lipstick is still a great look for nights out, this summer is all about a natural-looking face. Unless you’re sporting a fun, bright color for Girls’ Night Out, a smoother tinted lip is the best approach this summer. To accomplish this look, a tinted chapstick or chubby stick with a little bit of gloss gives a light and fresh look. I love Clinique Chubby sticks, tinted Burt’s Bees, and any clear lip gloss to make that color stand out.
With all of the bright colors and prints that are big this season, I think the biggest pops of color should be fun eyeshadows and sun-kissed blushes. Try combining classic eyeshadows with accents. I’ve been really into mixing my Bare Minerals “Noble” eyeshadow with a peach, lavender, or brighter pink. CoverGirl and L’Oreal have a lot of different choices for you to accommodate your summer color scheme. As far as blushes go, try using a more coral cream-based product. A little bit will go a long way and settle onto your skin for the entire graduation party or outside lunch. This MAC “Virgin Isle” shade is perfect and will last you for a long time. Another good option would be the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in “Fresh Pink” or “Hot Tamale.” Blush is usually the most underused beauty product over the summer… if you’d rather use your natural pink from spring, go for it! Find that natural look and go with it.
A bare summer face is my favorite to color—there’s a sense of freedom in being able to go lighter and just use the colors of the season to compliment you.
