Trend Report: Winter Short Chic
Sporting shorts in the wintertime may sound crazy, but when you pair them with some tall boots/high pumps and add a little layering into the mix, it can be sexy, chic, and totally comfortable style. However, don’t reach for just any pair of shorts buried in the back of your closet — go for ones made with winter fabrics and colors that keep with the season element, but still look of-the-moment.
A nice pair of tweed or wool shorts (I love these ones from the Gap – plus they’re on sale for $29.99!) can look great when complimented with some colored tights and cute heels. Pair them with an oversized cardigan and pearls for your weekly internship, or take it to a whole new level for your next big night out by adding a boyfriend blazer and ankle boots.
For a more casual look, try following the lead of your favorite star. Quite a few celebrities have been spotted recently sporting their denim shorts in the cold weather. (Pick up your own pair at Urban Outfitters for just $39.99.) Denim can be perfect for any season – especially when you rock this look with sexy black leggings and boots.
Or, why not try two trends at once — winter shorts and sequins! A hot date might not seem so daunting if you sub out a short skirt for a cool pair. Funktional’s Matte Sequin Shorts ($55.00; www.styleq.com). Though retro in style, you can add your own modern twist with a leather jacket, bright scarf, and wedge heel.
With all these available options at your fingertips, there’s absolutely no reason your winter wardrobe should come up “short.”
