The Truth: Young Women and Student Loans

In 2012, 71% of all students graduating from four-year colleges had student loan debt. In 2012, $29,400 was the average debt levels of graduating seniors. Student loans are a problem. But the cost of education isn’t going to change anytime soon.

Today, there are more than 20 million high school and college-age girls in the U.S., each of whom has her own hopes and dreams. But with limited expendable income and the high cost of college, these dreams can often be out of reach.

UChic is working to create a solution to this problem by providing scholarships to help young ambitious women achieve their goals and dreams.

Christie and UChic recently launched the “1,000 Dreams” campaign on Indiegogo to not only fund the production of its first product, a stylish computer case, the campaign is also seeking to fund scholarships for over 10 amazing young women.

So today we would like to share with you some facts we discovered when we initially began researching for our Indiegogo campaign.

While our products are fun, fashionable and practical, our mission is urgent. Young women need funding.

67% of young women worry their student loan debt will prohibit them from reaching their professional dreams.

 Majority (52%) of young women currently in college report accumulating up to $14,999 in debt from other college-related expenses (not including tuition).

55% of students find it difficult to find the money to participate in extracurricular activities.
