UChic Career Quest: A Tale of My Career Search

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”

– Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

This is my career search blog. Welcome!

As a senior who will be graduating in May, I figure it would be interesting or very very sad to read about my job search. After all, this just the best time to graduate isn’t it? A recession will certainly make my experience all the more interesting. Someday, after I get super successful and this time is long forgotten, I imagine (note: Imagine) myself talking to my children and friends and maybe speaking to students who are looking for jobs, telling them how long long ago I worked my way through a recession.

It might not be fun, but it shakes things up. That’s all I ask.

Charles Dickens wrote that “it was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” I’d like to very much agree. The second semester of my senior year is looking to be both wonderful and terrifying; both entertaining and stressful. Most likely, it’s going to be interesting. I hope.
