The Vampire Diaries: New Hit Series or Hit Copy-Cat?

As I tuned into the CW11 last night  I realized there were a bunch of similarities between The Vampire Diaries and the other teen vamp drama- Twilight. This series was also conceived out of a series of books written–in the 90s–by New York Times Bestselling Author, L.J. Smith. It takes place in Mystic Falls, a town quite similar to the Y2K vampire series town of Forks. Perhaps Meyer used this as inspiration? We will never know, as the differences are also quite apparent.

This Hunky Bloodsucker, Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley, of “Army Wives,” is every bit as delectable as Edward. From his perfectly coiffed brown hair down to his black boots. He’s brooding, mysterious, and absolutely deadly. However, he has the ability to live in the light–unlike Edward, and the hunks of True Blood. The female in this series, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev “DeGrassi: The Next Generation), a 17-year-old who recently lost her parents in a car accident, is torn between two vamps–sounds like Sookie? Damon, played by Ian Somerhalder of “Lost,” is Stephan’s brother–who he hasn’t seen for 15 years. Damon is the complete opposite; he’s viscious, bloodthirsty and oh yea only feasts on humans.

My advice to you– Give it a shot, worse comes to worse, at least you’ll have something to talk about in school the next day.
