What Every #GirlBoss Must Do This Summer

Summer is just around the corner! Are you excited? I’ve been so worn out by the school year that it seems like freedom just can’t come quick enough. Of course the first thing I’m going to do is catch up on sleep, but after that, the world’s my oyster.

These upcoming few months are really a magical time where you can do just about anything you’ve been waiting to do for a whole year. To make this summer the best summer ever, check out this list of must-do’s for a #GirlBoss like you.

1. Create a bonfire and make s’mores

What’s more like summer than sitting around a campfire with all your friends, toasting marshmallows and eating s’mores? Add hot dogs and other snacks and make it a party! But, be sure to check with the fire regulations so you’re not accidentally doing something illegal.

2. Escape to nature

You have been stuck in class all year. Get outside and get some sun! You don’t have to go far to enjoy the outdoors. Go to a park. Breathe in the fresh air. Just lay in the grass and look up at the blue sky. For the nighttime, go stargazing with a cutie.

3. Get to work

Whether it’s getting a part-time job or being an intern, working for the summer will give you some extra pocket money. So long as you give yourself some free time and don’t overcommit, you’ll still be able to do all of the more fun things you wish to do. Or if jobs and internships don’t suit your fancy, simply learn a bit more in depth on a subject you are interested in. Lynda.com is a great resource to learn new programs.

4. Soak up the sun

Get your tan on, and get some Vitamin D. Did you know that Vitamin D is actually a lipid? Swimming is a lot of fun too, and you can’t really lounge around the same way during the winter.

5. Create a summer reading list and start reading

When was the last time you read for fun? Reading with no obligations can be super relaxing and enjoyable. I usually rely on friends and Goodreads for book recommendations and book reviews to scout out which books to put on my reading list.Going to be a freshman next year? Don’t forget to check out UChic’s Girls Guide.

6. Apply for Scholarships

School is expensive. But remember there is money out there to help you pay for school and for those extra circular activities that can change your college experience. UChic’s 1000 Dreams Scholarship Fund is open until August 30th! You have all summer to apply!

Summer passes by in a jiffy, so make sure you know what you want to do and plan for it, because otherwise, it’ll be gone just like that. Remember, every #GirlBoss needs an adventure.
