What I Wish I Would’ve Known: Having to Apply for My Major
By Kelly Leslie, Student at San Francisco State University
I wish I would have known that I was going to have to apply for my major before I started college.
I was accustomed to hearing people tell me I had plenty of time to figure out what I wanted to do during my four years at a university, and I figured I was ahead of the game because I already knew I wanted to major in journalism. I had no idea that the program was impacted and I was going to have to apply for my major after I had already been accepted into the school.
I wish someone had told me to look into subjects that interest me, and what different schools require of the students in the program.
Luckily, I was accepted into the journalism program at my school, but the application process would have been a lot less stressful if I had a little more experience to hand in with my resume. It is OK not to know exactly what you want to study, but make sure to at least look into programs that interest you so you can be prepared for anything the school may require of you.
